Galway Clinic
Client : Galway Clinic
Value : £6.3m (€7m)
The Galway Clinic was originally constructed in 2003 as a new private health care facility in Galway City. The Accommodation Wing Extension Project involved the extension on to the existing Accommodation Block to provide an additional 44 bed spaces over 2400m² of floor space above the existing facility. The majority of the new bed space is made up of single or semi-private rooms all of which contain their own en-suite bathrooms.
As a section of the project involves the conversion of the existing roof into clinical space as well as other interfaces with the live hospital environment, noise and dust monitoring were critical elements in the management process with monitoring stations set up in pre-agreed locations and results issued weekly.
All existing services were extended and a detailed protocol of method statements for interface works and access to the existing facility was developed with the client.
In addition to the vertical extension of the accommodation there was also an extension to the existing Day Care Ward and the construction and commissioning of a new theatre suite. This theatre suite consisted of 250m² of theatre space including a multi functional theatre (to incorporate a PHILLIPS ALLURA machine). The theatre included ancillary rooms-scrub room, anaesthetic room and a purpose built surgeon’s lounge.
The above works were complicated by the fact that the existing facility remained “live” throughout the works. That is, the accommodation floor immediately beneath the construction site was approx. 95% occupied throughout the project.
