Crossrail is Europe’s largest infrastructure project and will boost London’s rail capacity by ten per cent. Its largest tunnelling scheme was awarded to the joint venture company formed between John Sisk & Son and Dragados. This partnership combines the expertise of the two companies to deliver design and programme benefits for the client and travelling public.
Known as “C305”, this contract comprises the construction of the Eastern Running Tunnels from Limmo Peninsula to Farringdon, Limmo Peninsula to Victoria Dock, and Stepney Green to Pudding Mill Lane. The project will deliver approximately 11.9km of twin bore tunnels.
Tunnelling work commenced in late 2011 and tunnel boring machines started work in Spring 2012.
