Training & Development
John Sisk & Son Ltd. has a long established tradition of investing in the development of staff and appreciates the true value of staff development.
In recent years a lot of time, effort and investment has gone into the establishment of sustainable development structures. The current structure has received endorsement and accreditation from many professional bodies. Training and development structures help guide staff of all disciplines along a career path which is challenging, achievable, and ultimately rewarding for both staff and company.
4th Level Education
Professional development programmes have been established for all professional disciplines. In committing to these programmes, the company ensures that your career will be enhanced with a broad range of experience which will be regularly supported by training on site and at our office based training facilities. Programmes are generally split into three levels, and on graduating from one level to another, you will gain further responsibilities that reflect your increased capability.
Having actively participated in a development programme will ensure that you become recognised as a highly experienced, effective and respected professional within the company and industry alike.
Mentoring
To ensure that the company meets its commitments, you will be assigned a mentor who will initially assist you in settling into your role. While participating in a programme, you will meet on a regular basis with your mentor, who will guide and assist you in progressing through your development programme.
Management Skills Development
As staff progress and develop within the company, they will begin to assume greater responsibilities at management level. To support this progression, the company provides extensive softskills and management development programmes to support and assist staff in these challenging roles. These programmes include seminars and courses ranging from managing safety on site to courses in report writing and time management. The programmes provide a wide variety of opportunities to develop the skills necessary to succeed in a management position within Sisk
Further Education & Sponsorship
Recognising the ambition of our staff to develop their careers in in t he industry, the company sponsors a significant number of further education courses. Courses which we have sponsored in the past include ‘Higher Diploma in Project Management’, ‘Msc Building Services Technology’, ‘Cleanroom Technology and construction’, ‘Higher Diploma in Contract law’ to mention but a few.
Apprenticeships
Since the company’s establishment in 1859, John Sisk & Son Ltd. have been training apprentices in many trades, and more recently in ‘Carpentry & Joinery’ and ‘Blocklaying’. The company fully supports the four year Apprentice training programme and recruits annually for it’s Dublin based Carpentry & Joinery Training Centre.
The Training centre is the only one of its kind in the country, and is responsible for the development of highly skilled carpenters, who in the past have won the esteemed ‘Apprentice of the Year Award’ on many occasions. For Apprentices who successfully complete the programme, and who have demonstrated outstanding commitment, we provide them with the opportunity to participate in a ‘Foreman development programme’ which introduces them to a challenging and rewarding career in Site Management.
