CIBSE Sustainable Building Services Design Award

CIBSE (Chartered Institute of Building Services Engineers)has initiated a new competition to encourage innovation in sustainable building services design/installation. The competition is sponsored by John sisk & Son Ltd and supported by Building Services News and Dublin Institute of Technology. It is intended to attract the attention of engineers, consulting engineering practices and contractors who have been involved in innovtive projects in Ireland. The objective is to disseminate evidence based findings and project evaluations throughout the sector and encourage more widespread use of low/zero energy design and technology in Ireland.
Short (100-500 words) abstracts are invited from practising engineers and companies by Tuesday 23 June 2009. Entries are to be submitted to kevin.kelly@dit.ie
A short list of entries will be selected by a judging panel based on the following criteria:
Clarity of proposal, stating what is/will be done and how the success/failure will be measured and evaluated (methods fit for purpose).
The short listed entries will then be invited to submit final papers by Tuesday 15 September 2009 and make a final presentation in late October 2009 at the Dublin Institute of Technology. Judges for the shortlisting and on the final night will be provided by CIBSE, DIT and John Sisk & Son Ltd.
Final Entries will be judged on:
Sound Engineering Practice
Degree of Innovation or Application of Cutting Edge Industry Practice
Evidence (e.g. Energy Usage Data, Capital v Running Costs)
Data Analysis - Critical Stance maintained throughout
Insightful Conclusions/Limitations and Lessons Learned
First Prize is €1,000 and Two Runner Up Prizes of €500.
