National Conference Centre Dublin
June 2007
After 8 years and several competitive tenders the contracts have now been signed for the national Conference Centre (NCC). On 16-04-07 An Taoiseach, Mr. Bertie Aherne TD, visited the four acre riverside site, part of the 52 acre Spencer Dock development, where construction has begun on Ireland’s National Conference Centre.
The striking landmark building was designed by world renowned Pritzker prize winning Irish architect Kevin Roche. The building will be a significant iconic addition to the Liffey scape, joining the Four Courts and the Custom House. At almost half a million square feet (44,000 sq. metres), the NCC is the largest single-use building constructed in Dublin in decades, and indeed the first major public access building since the foundation of the State. The brief was to provide a building with a 100 year life span.
The NCC will be owned by the Office of Public Works and is being designed, built and financed by SDCCD Ltd who are also contracted to manage and maintain the centre for 25 years under the Public Private Partnership (PPP) agreement. |
