Centocor Meets its First Commissioning Milestones

A system is given a "Green Tag" when engineering, construction, and commissioning with input from qualification (where applicable) all agree that the system is statically complete and ready for commissioning to start dynamic testing. For a system to get a Green Tag, nothing that would affect safety or GMP can be incomplete (although minor punch list items such as cosmetic changes or missing non-critical support documentation can be open). Essentially, Green Tags mark the passing of the torch on a system by system basis from construction to commissioning.
Achievement of the first mechanical green tags is a significant and often elusive milestone in the life of a major project due the prerequisites of an enclosed building, permanent power, the completion of engineering, the procurement of all the required parts and pieces, the physical work that needs to be completed on and off the site, the large number of procedures that need to be in place, and the requirement that people representing a number of different groups all agree that "we made it". Many projects that flow relatively smoothly through design and construction stumble at this transition point.
It was announced today that the first three mechanical Green Tags have been achieved ON TIME! The systems involved are brine, compressed air generation, and instrument air distribution in the CUP. A huge effort has been put in by all those in engineering, procurement, construction, commissioning, qualification, users, and a host of support personnel both on and off site for all the hard work and cooperation that have made this achievement possible on their way to delivering an approved plant in 2010!
