Historic Day as new Limerick Tunnel is opened by Taoiseach
Taoiseach Brian Cowen officially opened the Limerick Tunnel on Tuesday 27 July 2010. The tunnel is expected to take up to 27,000 vehicles per day off the streets of Limerick city. This could increase to 40,000.

Today marks a major event in the rich history of Oasis Hospital. As the late Sheikh Zayed had a vision for his people with education and healthcare being the strong foundation for a growing and modern country, Oasis Hospital is honored to have been a key element of his vision in 1960. Today we signed the contract for the New Oasis Hospital, which is dedicated to the people of Abu Dhabi and their visionary leaders, HH Sheikh Kalifa and HH Sheikh Mohammed.

Our Lady's Children's Hospital, Crumlin, Dublin
Sisk were recently awarded the contract for the new 17 Bed Paediatric Intensive Care Unit at our Lady's Children's Hospital Crumlin, Dublin. The contract commenced on site in May 2010.

Aviva Stadium-Official Opening
An Taoiseach, Mr Brian Cowen, TD, officially opened the new Aviva Stadium at Lansdowne Road, Dublin on Friday 14 May 2010. The stadium will be the new home for Ireland's international rugby and soccer teams.

Grand Canal Theatre-Opening Night
Architect Daniel Libeskind’s Grand Canal Theatre, part of the larger development by Chartered Land, is a dramatic addition to Dublin’s docklands. The 2,100 seat venue opened its doors for the first time to the public on Thursday, March 18th, 2010. John Sisk & Son Ltd. acted as the general contractor on the project.

Retirement of Two Main Board Directors
Retirement of Noel Golden & Jim Tuohy

December 2009 saw the end of an era for Sisk with the retirement of two of our Main Board Directors, both of whom served in the Western Region for many years.

Noel worked for 36 years with Sisk in the Western Region based in the Galway office, while Jim who was with us for 30 years, the last 10 of which were spent running the Limerick office.

Sisk have been selected from among 8 bidders to construct and commission the new National Institute of Bioprocessing Research and Training (NIBRT). NIBRT is a world-class institute that provides training and research solutions for the bioprocessing industry in state of the art facilities. NIBRT is located in Dublin, Ireland and is based on an innovative collaboration between University College Dublin, Trinity College Dublin, Dublin City University and Institute of Technology Sligo.

150th Anniversary - Book Launch
The 150th Anniversary Book was launched on Tuesday 15th December 2009. The launch took place at SISK Group headquarters on the Naas Road , Dublin with over 100 staff members present.

Pembroke CCGT, South Wales
Sisk has been awarded this contract as a key element in the delivery of one of the largest and most energy efficient Combined Cycle Gas Turbine (CCGT) plants in the UK, supplying up to 3 million homes. Work commenced on 31 August.

Bombardier - Flying High
John Sisk & Son Ltd, Northern Ireland, were recently awarded a contract for the construction of the new facility for Bombardier for manufacturing a portion of the wings of their new C-Series plane. This project was won in the face of stiff competition. Great credit is due to all the team members from Sisk who were involved in the wining of this prestigious project.

GAA 125 Schools Day
This year the GAA are celebrating their 125th Anniversary of the establishment of the Association in Thurles, Co. Tipperary on 1st of November 1884.

As part of the celebrations The Irish Times and The Sisk Group who are both celebrating 150th Anniversaries this year teamed up with the GAA and Cumann na mBunscol and held a photography competition on The GAA 125 Schools Day which took place on Friday 24 April 2009.

Sisk Group Charity Cycle
On Saturday the 13th June, over 40 SISK Group staff members safely returned to Dublin following completion of a charity cycle from Cork to Dublin in aid of the Hospice Home Care for Children Campaign.

The cycle was organised to commemorate the 150th anniversary, and also the historic links for the SISK Group having been founded in Cork in 1859.

The event raised over €70,000 for the Irish Hospice Children's Palliative Care programme.

Mozambique Building Project
May 2009 saw the SISK Group partnering with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) Ireland to work on their ‘Global Village: Orphans & Vulnerable Children’ project in Mozambique. This afforded ten SISK Group staff members the opportunity to travel to Mozambique for eight days to help ensure that the most needy and vulnerable of society are given the opportunity to grow up within their family units and communities.

Sisk Apprentices win Joinery Award at 2009 National Skills Competition
Richard Sutton, 3rd year Apprentice Carpenter/Joiner is the winner of the Joinery Section at the National Skills Competition 2009 and Michael Dunne, 4th year Apprentice Carpenter/Joiner came second in this category.

This is a major achievement for Richard and Michael especially as their success comes during our 150 Year Celebrations.

The architectural practice of Gilroy McMahon has won the Royal Institute of Architects of Ireland (RIAI) Gold Medal for the Croke Park Project. The Gold Medal has been has been awarded since 1934 to a building of exceptional merit.

Limerick Tunnel wins 2008 Fleming Award
The Limerick submerged tube tunnel temporary works project has won the 2008 Fleming Award. DirectRoute Ltd (John Sisk & Son Ltd are part of this consortium), geotechnical consultant Webber Associates, part of Coffey Geotechnics and structural consultant MLM Consulting Engineers were awarded the £3,000 prize in December.

Sisk recently completed the Design and Build Contract for installation of the New Biomass Boiler at the Centocor Biopharma Plant in Cork. This is the first of its kind to be used in the Pharmaceutical Industry Worldwide.

Dundalk Institute of Technology - School of Music, Media & IT
John Sisk & Son Ltd has been awarded the contract for the re-development of the PJ Carroll Building at Dundalk Intitute of Technology. The 57 week contract, which commenced on 20th October, will involve a re-roof of the entire building (including occupied areas), remedial works to the listed external calcium silicate brickwork & curtain walling, and a complete fit out.

Wednesday 2nd July, 2008: John SISK & Son Ltd is the 100th company to be awarded the prestigious CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Accreditation by Engineers Ireland, it has been announced. The company received the accreditation following an audit of its lifelong learning practices for engineering professionals and was presented with the award by Ms. Mary Coughlan T.D., Tánaiste, and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment.

N9/N10 Phase 4 Contract Signing
On Friday 4th April, Kilkenny County Council as Lead Authority and Roadbridge Sisk Joint Venture trading as SRB Civil Engineering Ltd signed a contract for the construction of the N9/N10 Phase 4 Knocktopher to Powerstown High Quality Dual carriageway/Motorway. The total scheme cost is 467 million euro and represents the largest project ever undertaken by Kilkenny County Council.

Sisk Appointed Main Contractor for New Aviva Stadium
Sisk, Ireland’s largest construction company, has been appointed main contractor on the New Aviva Stadium. Sisk, who won the contract following a public procurement tendering process, will have overall responsibility for the construction of the stadium, which is scheduled to see its first action in 2010. Sisk is currently mobilising on site.

Sisk helping the environment
The Convention Centre Dublin, being built by CMP (a 50:50 JV construction company owned by Sisk and Treasury Holdings), is the first building in the world to contain Carbon Neutral Concrete. By lowering the embodied CO2 of the concrete with the use of Ecocem Cement, and offsetting the remaining Carbon Footprint, the concrete becomes Carbon Neutral.

Sod Turning Ceremony - N8 Cashel/Mitchelstown Road Improvement Scheme
The official turning of the first sod took place on Monday 22nd May 2006, by the Minister for Transport Martin Cullen T.D., of the first ECI Roads projects (Early Contractor Involvement) to be undertaken in Ireland for a 37km stretch between Mitchelstown and Cashel.
