John Sisk & Son has received a Built in Quality Award for the construction of Walsall Housing Group’s (whg) £6.5 m landmark new town centre headquarters.
The contractor was nominated by Walsall Metropolitan Borough Council’s Building Control Team and was a winner in the Commercial Category at the Built in Quality awards on Friday (6 July, 2012) at the International Convention Centre in Birmingham. The awards celebrate high quality work by building contractors and demolition firms and winners are selected from projects nominated by building control surveyors.
John Sisk & Son completed the design and build on the new office building, which forms part of the Walsall Office Corridor and aims to kick start the regeneration of the area.
The building features a curtain wall façade designed to resemble trees within the glazing. Apart from being attractive in itself, the design also provides solar shading to enhance the office environment and reduce cooling costs.
Kim Sheyvn, Regional Construction Director at John Sisk & Son, commented on the win: “We are honoured to have received this award and we are pleased our work has been recognised by the local council. Our team consistently deliver projects to the highest quality and as the whg building has a number of state of the art features, including some high specification renewable energy installations, we are especially proud to receive the Built in Quality award.”

The headquarters have also met the BREEAM ‘Excellent’ standards for sustainability with the installation of a green and brown sedum roof, photovoltaic panels, rainwater harvesting, air handling unit heat recovery and an air source heat pump.
