CEEQUAL Excellent Score of 90.4% acheived for the A477 trunk road

The A477 improvement project in Wales, between St. Clears and Red Roses, includes the construction of 9.3km of roadway with five bridges, six underpasses, a river bridge, two mammal passes, five flood relief culverts, renovation of an existing masonry arch bridge and two slip roads to the existing road. It's a £68m project that Transport Minister Edwina Hart described as a 'vital part of the trans-European road network'.
 
On engineering projects such as this, the CEEQUAL scheme provides a comprehensive sustainability rating, rewarding those that achieve high environmental, economic and social performance.This project received an 'Excellent' score of 87.3% at ’Interim Client and Outline Design’ stage.To improve on this rating, the team under took measures including pre-assessment of waste disposal companies for their recycling rates, and monitoring of surplus earthwork materials sent off site using photographic evidence and detailed records.
 
Following a rigorous review by the CEEQUAL verifier, a incredible 'Final Award' score of 90.4% was achieved.This is testament to all those involved in the project and their dedication to environmental and social performance.This will no doubt be appreciated in the years to come by all those who benefit from the project.
