Sisk ramps up UK Civil Engineering Capacity as work grows
Owen Sisk joins UK business for major infrastructure projects
The civil engineering business of John Sisk & Son (Sisk), one of the largest construction groups in the UK and Ireland, is to be strengthened in order to target major UK infrastructure opportunities. Sisk is expanding its Civils arm in the UK under the leadership of Owen Sisk.
Paul Wilson, UK Managing Director of Sisk commented:
“Our strategy for Civils in the UK is to build on our existing successes and to increase our market share of this growing sector by using our significant experience in Ireland and the financial stability and long term business perspective that we gain from being part of a diversified, well established group of companies. With Owen leading the expanded UK team, we will leverage the skills and experience that has delivered many of Ireland’s largest projects.”
Owen Sisk, Director Civils UK, added:
“We are proud of our international track record with large civil engineering projects and of our heritage as a family owned and run company. The Civils opportunities in the UK are well matched to our experience and a logical step for our well established UK business.”
The company has significant experience independently and in conjunction with JV partners across a diverse range of major Civils projects, which include large schemes such as the Limerick Tunnel (£450M) and Greystones Harbour (£260m); major new road projects like the N9/N10 (£190m) and N8 (£225m); the Bray Shanganagh water treatment plant; Knock Airport; rail infrastructure and station projects; plus conventional and renewable energy projects at Whitegates and Aghada CCGT power stations, Lisheen Windfarm and the Duleek Waste to Energy plant.
Owen will also be working at a group level to leverage the experience and financial strength the contractor has internationally as a member of the Group Civils Management Board. The UK expansion is part of an international drive in the Group’s Civils business and follows the opening of an office in Poland to target road building projects and partnerships with FCC on Dublin Metro North and Spanish contractor Dragados targeting projects in the Crossrail scheme.
Sisk has secured a number of Civils project wins in the UK in recent months, including:
- Grand Pier, Weston-super-Mare (£25.6m)
- Pembroke Power Station (£44m)
- A477 – Red Roses to St Clears, Pembrokeshire – ECI scheme in partnership with Roadbridge. (£48m)
- A5 Section 2 - Sion Mills to Omagh - Roadbridge/Sisk/PT McWilliam Joint Venture (£180m)
