Sisk to provide Kettering with vibrant new market place buildings

New café restaurants and apartments form centrepiece of town’s regeneration scheme

Kettering Borough Council has selected John Sisk & Son Ltd (Sisk), one of the largest construction groups in the UK and Ireland, as the contractor to help regenerate the historic Northamptonshire town’s market place.

The £2.1m contract was awarded to Sisk on a full Design & Build basis including developing the design from concept stage and obtaining full planning approval, which Sisk has recently secured. The project is due for completion in spring 2011 and is being funded by Kettering Borough Council and Growth Funding, with the support of the County Council and North Northants Development Company.

The project will see the reintroduction of buildings that historically occupied the southern edge of the Square. New high quality apartments will be built above the restaurants, with resident parking provided at basement level.

Speaking about the project, Chris Dyer Director Midlands Region, Sisk said:

“Sisk is delighted to be a part of this superb scheme, providing new facilities and places to live for the people of Kettering. We are a midlands based contractor that prides itself on the care and attention we deliver in our work and to the surrounding environment.”

“Having secured the necessary planning permission for Kettering Borough Council, we look forward to starting work on site with our partners and bringing improvements that befit the history of the town.”

This development forms the next phase in the regeneration of the town centre, drawing more people to an already vibrant shopping area in Kettering. Formal consultation on the scheme received the support of English Heritage, whose comments were considered as key, due to the proximity of the new buildings to the Grade 1 Listed Parish Church.
