Sisk completes Aviva Stadium at Lansdowne Road
World famous stadium opens as new international venue
The Aviva Stadium, formerly Lansdowne Road, has been completed by contractor John Sisk & Son Ltd (Sisk), one of the largest construction groups in the UK and Ireland.
At a cost of €410m, the project in the heart of Dublin has spanned a three year period and has been completed on time and to budget.
It is located on the site of one of the country’s oldest sporting venues, and the stadium will continue to play host to international Rugby and Soccer matches as well as a venue for music concerts.
The new stadium has an all seated capacity of 50,000 and comprises a curvilinear shaped roof covering all four sides of the ground.
Over 6,000 people were employed on the project over the three year period. The project consumed approximately 4,000,000 man hours. At peak construction just over 1,300 people were on site on a daily basis.
Nigel Warnes, Director of Major Projects for Sisk in the UK, commented:
“This has been a truly landmark project for Sisk and we are delighted to hand over this unique project that will host world renowned events in the sporting calendar. The construction has been immensely satisfying, seeing the skills and expertise of our workforce on a building that has received so much positive attention.”
