Sisk’s Manchester office wins package of Network Rail contracts
Liverpool and Manchester regions to benefit from bridge improvement works
John Sisk & Son Ltd (Sisk), one of the largest construction groups in the UK and Ireland, has been awarded a £1.3m package of works in Liverpool and Manchester by Network Rail to refurbish and update a number of bridges across this important part of the national rail network.
Carl Hendry, Director, Sisk Rail commented on the contract:
“This project will involve specialist staff working on isolated electrified lines, with careful project management required to ensure minimal disruption. Fortunately, our Manchester office is local and has the right refurbishment expertise for Network Rail.”
The package of works covers a total of 7 bridges across Liverpool and Manchester and will include structural refurbishment and installation of new sections, grit blasting, recoating as well as masonry repairs. The projects will be completed within a 20 week period.
Sisk Rail will have to ensure the work has minimal impact to the rail network and will co-ordinate partial closures and ensure measures including power isolation, bridge jacking and scaffold encapsulation are managed.
The contract wins come as the Manchester office had a successful end to 2009 with citizenM awarding Sisk the contract to build a new hotel in Glasgow and in Lancaster where Sisk is constructing a mixed use scheme in the city centre.
