Safety at Sisk brings success

Sisk & Sisk Rail win prestigious awards for their commitment to occupational heath and safety

John Sisk & Son Ltd (Sisk) and Sisk Rail, which together form one of the largest construction groups in the UK and Ireland, have received coveted national and international awards for their excellence in health and safety throughout 2009.

Sisk has been awarded the RoSPA Gold Medal Award in recognition of their standards in health and safety last year as well as its consistency over the last five years in winning the Gold award.

Sisk Rail, which provides civil engineering services to the rail industry, has been awarded the RoSPA Gold award for the second year running in recognition of their high standards of Health and Safety during 2009.

Finally, The British Safety Council has awarded Sisk and three active sites The International Safety Award for 2009.  All three of Sisk’s nominations were successful and were from the Southern region:

  • Wembley WO4 – a 234 residential apartment scheme for Quintessential Homes (Wembley) LLP.
  • Travelodge Waterloo Road – a 278 bedroom hotel including a bar/café and a 150-cover restaurant.
  • Bolsover Street – a mixed use scheme in London’s Fitzrovia including residential accommodation, office space and several floors of The Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital (RNOH) NHS Trust.

The awards were collected in May.

James Meredith, Company Safety, Quality & Environmental Manager, Sisk commented:

“The safety of our people, our clients and all other individuals involved in our projects is always on our mind. These awards are testament to Sisk operating a zero tolerance approach to Health and Safety in that all of our employees are fully trained in all relevant health and safety practices in order to work on any project we undertake.

“However, we will not be complacent and will continue to redouble our efforts together with our subcontractors to ensure that we continue our dedication to improving performance in this crucial area.”
