Construction firm delivers the goods for homeless people in Glasgow

Sisk supplies Glasgow Simon Community with essential items of food and clothing

Construction firm John Sisk & Son Ltd (Sisk) has handed over a collection of food, clothing and other essential items to local charity Glasgow Simon Community (GSC), an organisation working with homeless people in the Glasgow area.

Through GSC and Sisk, homeless people in Glasgow have received toiletries, warm clothing and over 200 tins of food and boxes full of pasta, rice and other cooking ingredients.  Sisk gathered the collection from their on-site team working at a new Glasgow development.

“Working as a local contractor, we’re pleased to support GSC in their work with Glasgow’s homeless people. We had a great response to the appeal from both Sisk staff and sub-contractors.  We have visited GSC’s facilities and have seen first-hand how they provide a vital service to people who really need it most” commented Chris Dyer, Director, Sisk

Sisk is currently constructing the new citizenM hotel project in Glasgow city centre, a 198 bedroom hotel built alongside the Theatre Royal.  The company held the collection as part of its sustainability week programme to participate and raise awareness in community and local environmental activities.

Stuart McDowall of Glasgow Simon Community commented on the donation:

“We really appreciate all the donations received, which are hugely appreciated by our clients. Food and warm clothing are always in demand, particularly during the winter months at GSC and even more so this year as it has been so cold.”

An estimated 3,000 women and men use the services offered by the GSC each year, and its work includes providing support on issues around homelessness, resettlement, addictions, mental health, social inclusion, employability, literacy & numeracy and volunteering.  GSC’s services can help people make informed choices to develop a route out of homelessness, and become an active part of their local community.
