Giving something back.
John Sisk & Son Ltd.'s UK Civils business has begun delivering it’s commitment to supporting the lives of young people, through collaborative working with the STEM programme.
The STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics) Programme is designed to encourage young people into STEM subjects and careers, including Civil Engineering and Construction.
We are aiming to increase our activity across the North West region over the next six months, activity which has kicked off this month with our first STEM event. Proposals Writer, Claire Cawte, volunteered her time at an Enterprise Day being held at Chorlton High School. This event was organised by local provider ‘Education Business Solutions’, and involved over half of the schools’ year nine year group.
The enterprise challenge is a simulation of a competitive business environment. During the challenge, students were given the opportunity to develop employability and enterprise skills needed for the world of work.
The challenge offers pupils the chance to manage risks, work creatively to solve problems and motivate others.
In the role of an “employer”, Claire was responsible for negotiating deals with the pupils, providing clear specifications to works required and offering advice on how best they presented their business plans, and ultimately final products.
A great day was had by all, and the Sisk Manchester office was the proud recipient of a number of somewhat ‘bespoke’ promotional items as a thank you from the students
