Ahead of Target for Glasgow 2014
The sport of shooting combines extreme concentration, skill and nerve. Sisk are proud to be part of the 2014 Commonwealth Games by designing, constructing and removing the enclosed ranges for this incredible sport.
The Barry Buddon Shooting Centre, which sits within the Ministry of Defense’s training camp on Scotland’s east coast, will host all the shooting competitions during the games. There are two ranges being constructed, one 25m and another combined 10m/50m range. Sisk's role is all encompassing to include, but not limited to, design, procurement, construction, testing, maintenance and decommissioning.
The ranges themselves consist of a steel frame building cladded with plywood founded on steel tubular piles. As the contract has progressed Sisk have been chosen to carry out additional works including the laying of 36,000m² of mesh netting at the shotgun range to collect any lead shot, and the construction of the houses where clays will be fired from.
All works have been completed ahead of programme despite facing the full fury of the Scottish weather in the early part of the year, and the site has been accident free for 17,000 man hours. That's something to be proud of considering, at times, the team were quite literally dodging bullets.
Sisk were selected to build the ranges as a result of expertise acquired following the successful construction and decommissioning of the 2012 Olympic Shooting and Archery ranges build at Woolwich.
It’s now down to the competitors to make their own mark!
