Brighton Depot

Southern Railway awarded Sisk Rail a contract to design and install a gas fired radiant heating system at the Brighton Depot Main Shed. The system services appx 2km of access walkways between eight ‘roads’ (tracks) within the depot. This replaced the existing 20 year old system.

Sisk Rail offered a solution within a 10 week installation programme, which satisfied Southern Railway’s requirements for a short contract duration.

The works were delivered through  7 day working, programmed in phases to suit the operations of the live Depot, where train maintenance takes place during the day and trains are berthed overnight.

Logistical challenges were met with the use of road/rail Mobile Elevation Work Platfoms (MEWPS) and phased isolations of the traction power supplies to safely carry out the high level works.
